FDP, 25 years of the best soccer
Miami, FL, August 27, 2014 – Fútbol De Primera, the nation’s longest and leading Hispanic soccer radio network, is pleased to announce that the summer of 2014 will round out its first quarter century in business. To commemorate the company’s 25th anniversary, Fútbol De Primera will be using a commemorative logo throughout the year. Andres Cantor, Fútbol de Primera’s Chairman, said it best, “FDP Radio has been the home of World Class soccer for many years. Though there are many factors which have attributed to our success, underlying them all is an unwavering commitment to meet our listener’s needs. We look forward to continuing to build for the next quarter century.” This tradition continues into 2015 when Fútbol De Primera will air exclusively the Mexican National Team matches, CONMEBOL’s Copa America, and CONCACAF’s Gold Cup Tournament.
Since its first broadcast in August 1989, Fútbol De Primera’s programming and soccer game specials have become an integral part of the nation’s soccer landscape. Fútbol De Primera’s Andres Cantor and Alex Gutman realized there was a need for soccer to be listened to on a substantial market list of stations that match the quality of the games themselves. In a historic move, Fútbol De Primera worked with its affiliates to broaden the landscape beyond AM stations and talk radio to put soccer on FM dial music formatted stations as programming sports specials…never done at that time. The strategy to expand to FM stations worked and powerhouse matches over the years have been heard nationally without fail with Andres Cantor and a stellar Fútbol de Primera Daily Show Staff with matches including the 2002, 2006, 2010 & 2014 FIFA World Cups; the Mexican National Team since 2002; CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers since 2002; and a record eight consecutive CONCACAF Gold Cup/Copa Oro tournaments.
Today, listeners of 115 affiliated stations have the ability to enjoy the best matches while at work, play and within their daily commutes with the ease of turning on their radio. Also, anyone with a mobile device can access Fútbol De Primera’s broadcast on its app or by tuning in through Fútbol De Primera’s newly designed web page fdpradio.com. Fútbol De Primera is gearing up for even more great soccer in the next two years.
We start off with the next two best tournaments to reach Hispanics after the World Cup. Fútbol de Primera will air in June exclusively CONMEBOL’s Copa America Tournament with all 10 South American teams participating alongside Mexico and Jamaica, the invited teams. In July, CONCACAF has once again signed an exclusive broadcast agreement with Fútbol De Primera for the upcoming 2015 Gold Cup tournament where USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada, and Central American and Caribbean teams will compete.
In 2016 Fútbol De Primera will air exclusively the 2016 Copa America “Centenario” — a 100th anniversary special edition of the historic South American tournament…a Copa America held in the United States for the first time. The field is expected to include all 10 South American nations, in addition to USA, Mexico, and four other teams from the CONCACAF region. Imagine Andres Cantor calling matches like Brazil vs. Colombia from Sun Life, or USA facing off against Argentina from the Rose Bowl. It is, in essence, Copa America joined with Gold Cup, making this the biggest and most prestigious soccer tournament held in the U.S. since the 1994 World Cup.
During all of these soccer tournaments, Fútbol de Primera will also broadcast exclusively Mexico’s road to the FIFA World Cup in World Cup Qualifying and the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, one year prior. The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be Futbol de Primera’s 5th consecutive exclusive broadcast.
